Contents

The Workshop on "Descriptional Complexity of Automata, Grammars and Related Structures" is being organized by the IFIP Working Group 1.2 Descriptional Complexity and the Otto-von-Guericke-University of Magdeburg. It starts in Magdeburg five days after ICALP'99 ends in Prague (approx. 300 km from Magdeburg) and one day after WIA'99 ends in Potsdam (100 km east of Magdeburg). The aim of the workshop is to present, partly through invited lectures, the state of the art and trends in the field and to provide a forum for the exchange of new results.

Registration office

The workshop will take place at the campus of the Otto-von-Guericke University of Magdeburg in Building 03, Room 308.

How to get to the workshop site

The workshop will take place at the campus of the Otto-von-Guericke University of Magdeburg in Building 03, Room 308.

Connections by air and/or by train

Many airlines fly into Berlin or Hannover. From there, Magdeburg is easily reached by train within approximately 90 minutes.

From the railway station Magdeburger Hauptbahnhof, the university can be reached by tram (route 1 going to Lärchenwuhne, route 5 going to Messegelände/Herrenkrug, or route 8 going to Neustädter See). Leaving the building of the railway station, turn left and go to the main street Ernst-Reuter-Allee. Then, the tram stop is seen at the right-hand side. Go two stations by one of the tram routes 1,5, or 8 to the east (which are turning to the north into the main street Breiter Weg), until you reach the stop Universitätsplatz. After leaving the tram, walk on in the direction of the tram, passing the Universitätsplatz square and crossing the next street Albert-Vater-Straße at a pedestrian crossing (traffic lights). Right there the main entrance of the university campus is found. Pass on about 200 meters along the Falkenbergstraße until you reach the building 03. You may follow the route also on this city map, the details are seen on this map with the surroundings of the university campus and on the map of the university campus.

Tickets for the tram can be bought on the station forecourt. In order to go to the Universitätsplatz, a Cityticket is sufficient which costs 1 German Mark. On the other hand you may also go by taxi; the ride is about 8 to 10 Marks. Ask the driver for taking you to university campus, Henning-von-Tresckow-Straße at Hohenstaufenring. This is next to the building 03.

Getting the the workshop site by car

Leave the Autobahn A2 (German freeway) at the exit Magdeburg Zentrum, turning off into the Magdeburger Ring (looking similar to a freeway). Get on it until you reach the exit B1 Dessau/Burg. Turn to the left (in the direction of Dessau/Zentrum), follow this street and pass the Universitätsplatz square which you will leave to the north (in direction to Zoo/Neustadt). Turn right on the first corner into the Henning-von-Tresckow-Straße, right north of the building 03 on the university campus.
